The London School of Samba (LSS) is the UK's first samba school with a rich history dating back to 1984.
They aim to spread the knowledge of Brazilian Carnival arts through music, dance and costume making. LSS have taught Samba drumming and dancing to over 31,000 individuals and have performed for millions of people during their 28 years.
The samba school have been performing at Notting Hill Carnival since1984 and it is their biggest annual event.
The Notting Hill Carnival is the largest street festival in Europe and originated in 1964 as a way for Afro-Caribbean communities to celebrate their own cultures and traditions. Taking place every August Bank Holiday weekend in the streets of London W11, the Notting Hill Carnival is an amazing array of sounds, colourful sights and social solidarity
At the roots of the Notting Hill Carnival are the Caribbean carnivals of the early 19th century – a particularly strong tradition in Trinidad – which were all about celebrating the abolition of slavery and the slave trade.
